FAQ's

How Does It Work?

Our classes are 2:1 and 3:1 depending on level. We offer personalized swim instruction through individualized lesson plans, delivered by a certified instructor

How Much Does It Cost?

For our year round program, lessons are perpetual meaning your slot is yours for as long as you want it! Your spot remains yours until you request a different time slot or request to be dropped from the lessons. Our summer lessons are sold in sessions. Courses are 8, 10, or 12 lessons each depending on which course is selected.  Up to date costs are available through the Registration portal, accessible at the top of this page.

What Sessions Are Available?

Lessons can be set 5-Days-per-Week, 3 Days-per-week, 2-Days-per-Week, or 1-Day-per-Week. You choose! The indoor program runs January to June and September to December while our outdoor programs are only in the Summer (June, July, and August). Indoor lessons run Saturdays and Sundays only 9am-2pm while Summer lessons are Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 7:30PM. Check out our booking site for what lessons are still available.

Booking Dates

Booking updates can be found on our Facebook page. Brave Waves welcomes past swimmers and swim families to have Priority Booking (“Friends and Family” first) - an exclusive booking period before opening to the General Public. Our summer program has lots of availability!

Where Do You Teach?

Brave Waves provides indoor swimming lessons at the W. Ross MacDonald School for the Blind in Brantford located at 350 Brant Ave. and our outdoor lessons run at the Five Oaks Education and Retreat Centre located at 1 Bethel Road, Brant.

Is the Pool Heated?

Absolutely. In fact, we heat our lovely outdoor pool to 85F or 30C – the only one in the county!  It’s also a 25M pool so there’s instruction area for beginners all the way up to advanced swimmers.

What Instruction Program Do You Follow?

Brave Waves started with the Lifesaving Society of Canada program but learned over the years that a more tailored, individualized program was best for our students. Today, the program is unique to Brave Waves delivering the best technique and competency in the shortest amount of time.

Can I Split Blocks Between Students?

Blocks cannot be shared between children, unfortunately. For families with multiple children, our goal would be to find times when your children could have their lessons at the same time even if they require different levels.

Refunds, Rescheduling and Missed Classes

Refunds are not possible except in extenuating circumstances. Once booked, time slots are saved for your family and denied to others. The same is true for rescheduling and missed classes – no reschedules and no refunds for missed classes.

Special Needs and Private Adult Classes

All are welcome at Brave Waves! If you have a swimmer with special needs requiring an extremely quiet environment or if you require personal privacy for any reason, please let us know. A private pool site is available for these needs. Call us for details.

What training do your instructors receive?

All Brave Waves Instructors have completed extensive training in-class and in-water that includes both written and in-water exams. Instructor training continues through the season to include daily debriefs, weekly reviews and training sessions.  Child safety and the best learning environment - that's our commitment.

How many days per week should my child take lessons?

Brave Waves believes that swimming is a lifeskill that takes years to develop. Two to three lessons per week are recommended for optimal learning. Frequent, regular swim lessons help students retain, reinforce and build skills maximizing your child’s progress in the shortest amount of time.

Will my child go under water?

Brave Waves is a nurturing, supportive school helping all children advance in their skills and confidence, regardless of ability or reservations. Successfully going underwater safely and confidently is part of that process. Our methods have been proven to be supportive, positive and effective, even for the most cautious of swimmers.
